HR Trends: Talent Acquisition in Asia-Pacific

Francesca Di Meglio | 08/04/2022

Taking a look at the recruiting landscape in Asia-Pacific reveals a number of HR trends. The post-COVID world is ripe with opportunities to transform the workplace and change mindsets. Talent acquisition is the first step in the employee lifecycle, so it is the first area of redesign. HR leaders are reconsidering how they recruit, what tools they use, where they find talent, and how to ensure the skills gap gets closed and talent pipelines get filled.

Discover the latest HR trends in Talent Acquisition in Asia-Pacific:

Artifical Intelligence in Hiring

Many leaders in talent acquisition are turning to AI, especially for the initial stages in hiring. They use the HR technology to efficiently scan and retrieve the resumes and CVs of potential hires. They also use the technology to identify underrepresented groups and people who could fill the skills gap. AI can be applied to administer skills tests to assess the knowledge and potential of applicants.

Some argue that this technology may make the humans redundant in the early stages  of the hiring process, others insist that it only compliments the human process. After all, there is the possibility of bias in AI algorithms, so humans need to be the check on the system. They still must interact with the applicants to determine fit and potential.

Promoting from Within

More HR leaders are applying AI further into the employee lifecycle. They can use the algorithms to recognize the potential for attrition and identify employees due for a promotion. This fits into new strategies about promoting within the organization rather than hiring externally.

Companies prefer internal promotion because it is cost effective and requires minimal resources for training. The person already knows the basics about how the company functions and what the culture is like. Also, these kinds of promotions require career mapping and learning, both of which help in employee engagement and experience.

Elevating the Employee Experience

Indeed, the employee experience is becoming more important. The relationship between employer and employee is changing. People now expect more empathy from leaders. Many have shifted their priorities after living through the pandemic. The world over people are reconsidering and rewriting the psychological contract or unwritten rules that express the expectations of employer/manager and employee. Asia-Pacific is no different. Even with more remote workers, the workplace is becoming friendlier and kinder with an emphasis on empathetic leadership.

Crafting Employer Brand

Competition for talent has been fierce. As a result, employer brand is paramount. The reputation employers have among recruits and job applicants can help them attract the best talent. There are a number of ways to improve employer brand or just to spread the word about it. This practice is gaining importance in Asia-Pacific.

In Asia-Pacific, HR trends are similar to other parts of the world. The employee/employer relationship is changing. The workplace is transforming. People are still trying to figure out how to make hybrid and remote work more functional and personal. This new approach to HR begins, in many ways, with recruiting and talent acquisition.

Keeping track of it all can be challenging, but the Recruiting and Talent Acquisition online event will address many of these topics. Register for free.
