3 Ways for HR to Use the Metaverse
Add bookmarkThe metaverse remains an advanced technology that Human Resources professionals can consider as they seek to better connect with remote and hybrid workers. People are looking for solutions that will allow them to provide employees with the flexibility they desire, while also ensuring maximum productivity, effective collaboration, and stronger networks across functions and departments.
While many are wondering whether the Metaverse, with a capital M, referring to Meta's version of the technology, is DOA, the general metaverse still holds promise for many. Recently, HR Exchange Network turned to business and HR leaders on Terkel.io and asked them to share how employers can utilize this technology. Here are their suggestions:
Use for Onboarding of Remote Workers
"In this era of hybrid and remote working, the recruitment and onboarding process for candidates and new employees often requires a lot of back-and-forth emails and video calls. This can often lead to a less personal experience and can cause candidates or new employees to feel detached from the company from the beginning of their careers within it.

As a result, the Metaverse provides a method for HR to communicate more effectively with prospective and new employees throughout the recruitment process, even in a remote setting. HR can set up virtual office spaces to generate more of a 'face-to-face' atmosphere during recruitment and induction periods, creating a more personalized experience.
It also allows HR to get a more accurate portrayal of potential remote candidates and their possible fit within the organizational culture, and foster better future working relationships with their new employees."-Eleanor Holmes, Marketing Executive, MyHRToolKit
Enhance Employee Engagement
"One effective way for HR to use the Metaverse is to create virtual experiences that enhance employee engagement and learning and development. For example, companies can use virtual reality (VR) to conduct immersive onboarding sessions or training programs. This can help employees feel more connected to the company culture and values, and can increase retention rates.
Another way to use the Metaverse in HR is to create virtual spaces for mental health and wellness initiatives. Companies can use VR to provide guided meditations or other mental health resources in a safe and comfortable virtual environment.
In terms of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB), the Metaverse can provide a platform for immersive diversity training, allowing employees to experience different perspectives and scenarios in a virtual setting."-Himanshu Sharma, CEO and Founder, Academy of Digital Marketing
Host Virtual Training and Simulations
"One effective way for HR to utilize the Metaverse is by incorporating virtual training programs and simulations to enhance behavioral training. By harnessing the immersive capabilities of the Metaverse, HR can create interactive designs and engaging experiences that replicate real-life work scenarios. These virtual simulations can provide employees with hands-on training, allowing them to practice skills such as communication, negotiation, critical thinking, and decision-making in a risk-free environment.
Through classes in the Metaverse, employees can participate in lectures, discussions, and collaborate with trainers and fellow learners, irrespective of their geographical location. To make the learning experience more practical and engaging, these sessions can further involve 3D models, simulations, and gamified elements. Through this, the Metaverse can transform traditional training methods not only for technology-savvy generations but also to change the way employees develop crucial skills."-Fehmida Merchant, L&D Consultant, Naman HR
